readypro.org Lets talk about keeping your first aid kit stocked up.
What are some essential supplies that I should include in a first aid kit?
I was in the pharmacy the other day and decided to buy a first aid kit while I waited for my prescription. The kits were pretty expensive so I just bought a bag and made one up myself with the same things the others had in them.
Mine contains:
Scissors
Paracetamol
Plasters (sticking plasters) of different sizes
A bandage and medical tape, safety pins
Antiseptic lotion and liquid
Cottonwool buds and balls
A sling
Saline solution
Baby wipes
Latex Gloves
Ibuprofen gel
I would also recommend a first aid book/instruction manual.
That is everything that was listed in the kits you could buy and a few extras that pharmacist suggested.

My husband and two of his friends are going on a hiking trip and will be liven off the land. They will be out of contact of everyone with no cell reception "maybe HAM radio reception" for about one month deep in mountain country. We have a first aid kit but their are things they would like to add and where informed that they needed to complete a few forms to be able to get the items. I can not find what forms or any other answers on how to obtain the supplies they would like to take.
Supplies include
Penicillin
Novacaine
snake bit vaccine "rattle snake and copper head"
Pain killer of some short. Hydrocodone, Peracet ect.
They need these due to if anything thing happens and they can get a hold of a rangers station. By the time they got to them it would be to late.
Does anyone know how they can obtain these items?
Do not answer stock pile them or save your old prescriptions for that may work for a few items but not all of them plus that is the wrong way of doing it.
Check with REI. They are an outdoor sports supply store and have a large selection of first-aid kits from the simple to the expeditionary level. Others are Campmore and Sierra Trading Post. These two are discounters. They carry a large assortment, maybe even more than REI. You will need to get a prescription from your doctor for the antibiotics. Rather than penicillin (too many bacteria are resistant) I would suggest Keflex (for skin and superficial infections) It will cover many chest and respiratory infections, as well. Your doctor can prescribe topical Lidocaine for pain. Vicodin is also good for pain. I don't know if you can get snake bite antitoxins - but you can try. (They have to be kept refrigerated or they will deteriorate.) And finally, make sure that they have a good water purification system. And have them file a trip ticket with the Ranger Station with their planned itinerary. That way, if they are late, a search party can be dispatched.

Each package contains 18 individually wrapped bars containing 200 calories each -- this prevents the loss of food by not having to break pieces off
(Pack of 2) These food bars have a great coconut flavor.
They have a 5 year shelf life and are approved by the U.S. Coast Guard.
Will I save money by just going to the pharmacy with a list and picking up all the things in a kit and putting them in a waterproof tackle-box?
It is better to pick them up individually. When you purchase the kit, it doesn't come with enough sizes, quantities etc. You will pay more by buying singly, but in the the long run, it is well worth it.
