shine a torch in them. If the pupils dilate i.e. get smaller when the light is shined in them then they are said to be reacting. If they both react to the same size they are said to be equal.

Sorry Ben I forgot to mention they are still unconscious so they can't really follow instructions. I mean they might have a neck injury so recovery position would be wrong, wouldn't it?I
1] any and all people who have been knocked unconscious should get to a hospital, ASAP - ambulance should be called
2] if you do not know what what damage caused this, do not move patient
3] if patient regains consciousness, they are usually confused:
a] call them by name, if you know it
b] tell him/her where they are, and that they were unconscious
c] tell them not to move, until ambulance comes
d] no food or drink
e] can use your or someone else's coats to cover patient; to make patient more comfortable
4] you do not have any medical/nursing skills, don't bother doing an eye exam, etc.
Is an emergency room doctor more qualified to administer first aid at a car accident scene than a paramedic or EMT? I ask because I was traveling with my friend last week and we stopped at a car accident caused by snow where there was an injury. A bystander had called 911 and my friend's father who is an emergency room doctor at a local hospital got out of the car and started giving first aid to the unconscious passenger. The paramedics arrived a few minutes later and my dad asked them for the equipment and continued giving first aid while the paramedics just kind of stood there. Do emergency room doctors have more training than paramedics for emergency situations?
Second question, is an internist more qualified than a paramedic as well or is it only an emergency room doctor that is more qualified than a paramedic to administer first aid in an emergency?
The paramedics' advantage is that they are used to working in the chaos outside the hospital.
The ER doctor has a lot more knowledge, but not the field experience.
An internist is, to be blunt, useless in the field. A lot of knowledge, but little about what to do outside the hospital
Having said that, I always appreciated the MDs that offered to help on scenes.
my dad has diabetes type II and high blood pressure.
nowadays he suddenly gets unconscious, saliva drips from his mouth, and he doesn't know what he speaks then. his body gets cold.
what should be the first aid.
what is his problem?
doctor asks him to take pills and says its nothing.
but to him in such a state almost every alternate day or 3 days in a week is pathetic. it's tough to see a loving dad in such a state. please help.
he doesnt take drugs like heroin...

dad needs better glucose control. he needs to check his blood sugar, pre-meals, and pre-bedtime. he needs to take his meds as prescibed. he needs 1800 - 2200 calorie diet daily. he also needs to reduce the sodium in his diet to control his high blood pressure. dad needs a bedtime snack to ensure blood sugar does not go too low during sleep. he needs light exercise daily and continue to keep regular scheduled appointments with his doctor. keeping daily logs of blood sugars will be helpful for your dad to watch the trend of his blood glucose. last recommendation is to have your dad google diabetic nutrition/ diets to get better understanding of foods better suited for him.
This is not a real scenario this is just a question i have for my first aid test. If a patient goes unconscious but has an irregular heartbeat i give 2 breaths etc. But if a patient goes unconscious but has a regular heartbeat do i still give him/her 2 breaths and do chest compressions or what do i do?
If the casualty is unconscious and breathing roll them into lateral/recovery position (on their side)
If the casualty is unconscious and not breathing or breathing normally then commence CPR with 30 compressions, followed by 2 rescue breaths with head-tilt, chin-lift method, if you don't have a barrier such as a mask then do compression only CPR.
AED's - if you have one available turn it on and following prompts, expose the casualties chest, and stick sticky pads to casualties chest as directed (there is a diagram on the sticky pads), do not touch the casualty while the AED is analyzes the casualties heart, if it detects a ventricular fibrillation it will shock the casualty or you will be instructed to push a button (depending on the type of AED).
Ideally you should have training in the use of AED's
