I will be taking training courses. But I just received my First Aid & CPR certificate and its valid for the next two years.
Must I still take this course?
No you will not need to take the first aid and cpr classes since you are already certified. you do need to take the lifeguard training courses and most likely the Automated External Defibrillator – AED classes as well. Also depending on where you want to lifeguard you might also need to take a water safety class. All qualifications vary depending on where you're lifeguarding. Just to make sure I'd go and ask someone at the place what courses need to be taken.
Without oxygen being passed from the lungs to the blood stream and then pumped around the body by the heart a person will die. When a person ...
what is the differences between cpr-first aid, and cpr heartsaver/aed mean? also, is first aid included or is that a separate class from these? what will i learn in each? thank u for anyone who can answer this!
It sounds like you're talking about the American Heart Association courses.
In the realm you're talking, they have a few courses -- here's a quick breakdown.
--Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider--
Tailored to people in the healthcare field. Provides instruction in CPR and AED, choking, and the use of certain tools to make CPR more effective. Also covers some of the physiology and studies concerned with resuscitation.
--Heartsaver--
This is a catch-all for non-healthcare courses. It is comprised of several different modules, each with its own focus. I'll just talk about the basics
Heartsaver CPR -- Basic, idiot-proof CPR.
Heartsaver AED -- Basic, idiot-proof use of the Automated External Defibrillator
Heartsaver First Aid -- Basic, nearly idiot proof first aid course. Covers minor/major wounds and maladies, their treatments, also recognition of more serious ailments like heart attacks and strokes.
Sometimes, Heartsaver courses will be combined, like Heartsaver CPR+AED.
Be advised that if you're taking a CPR class for a position in the healthcare field, or for a healthcare-related course in college (nursing, EMT, etc), then you're almost certainly going to need to take the BLS for Healthcare Provider's course.

When I was hired as a gymnastics instructor, the gym did not require the instructors to be CPR/ first aid certified. A year ago the gym was purchased by someone new who knows squat about gymnastics. This year he is requiring us to have these certifications and stated that we are financially responsible for the course. Is this legal? He also is requiring us to sign a release so I we get hurt we cannot collect workers comp. That has got to be illegal!!
to bad it they can do that
but i feel this way if you are required to do so they should pay for it
also if you have to maybe as group where you work at could hire a teacher that will do it for a group at a flat rate
where i work at it is also required but he do have certified instructor that also works there
I want to take a CPR Course with my brother (who wants to be a cop) and get my CPR/First Aid Card. However, I'm not sure where to go to find this sort of training. I have talked to the Red Cross, but the only one in town is sort of run down so I'm looking for other ideas?
Do you have CPR/First Aid Certification?
Can I get this from a local fire department?
Thanks for your knowledge!
We are in the Vancouver, Washington area.
(sort of near Portland, Oregon)
Since the Red Cross isn't helping, I would try local college, or even local hospital, not sure if the fire department can help you or not.
I was told that it was mandatory for me to have my First Aid/CPR certification in order to keep my hours with my job. My job will pay the fee of the class but will not pay me for my time (about 4-5 hours) attending the CPR/First Aid class.
Is this legal? Can they actually not pay me for my time?
(I work with disabled adults in California).
I agree with your poster, Designer. If it's a provision of your employment then it's perfectly legal. If it isn't in your job description and it IS in a higher position description you may be able to lobby for a raise or a promotion. In any case, it's been my experience that education on any job is a benefit. When/if you decide to leave that company you'll take that with you and possibly better qualify for the next job you seek.
