Third-degree burn first aid?

Just research for a book, don't worry!
My character has a third-degree burn along the side of her stomach. She went to the hospital and got it treated. She also got some painkillers to ease the pain. The doctors put bandages on her burn.
(Hopefully this is sounding medically accurate so far.)
My question is this: how would this person be able to shower? Would they leave the bandaged on, or take them off? What is the proper first-aid care in that situation?
Thanks for your help!!

Definitely second degree, not third degree. With second degree burns there is a special waterproof dressing that can be used but I don't remember what it is called.

First Aid Tips : How to Treat Second & Third-Degree Burns

Second and third-degree burns cause blistering, charring and blackening of the skin, which need to be cooled with clean, synthetic materials and a ...

How should each first aid burns degress can be treated?

For example how should the 3 burn trreatment be treated?

All burns are treated the same, to stop the burning process.

If clothing has melted to the burnt area DO NOT REMOVE, as this will cause further pain, take more skin off, if not de-glove the victim. (I know someone who had his arm de-gloved because someone removed his shirt).

BURNS
Your skin is a protective barrier to infection, and any loss of skin, however small, is susceptible to infection. any burn bigger than a 50 cent coin, you must seek medical attention. If the burn is bigger than the casualty's hand then call an ambulance immediately.

Management of a burn
* Cool burnt area (minimum 10-20 minutes cold running water or until no further pain is felt)
* Remove jewellery
* Cover with sterile non -stick dressing
* Seek medical help urgently.

DO NOT
- Apply lotions, oily dressings (butter)
- Prick / break blisters
- Give alcohol to drink
- Over-cool casualty (shock)
- Use cotton wool, adhesive dressings etc.
on burn.

If you have no non stick dressing use glad wrap, it acts as a second skin and will also protect the skin from infection.

The reason why we;
Don't apply creams, Makes it hard for doctors to assess for the burn properly.
Don't break or burst blisters - Increase the risk of infection.
Don't give alcohol - Increase shock.
Don't use cotton wool or adhesive dressing - Is they stick to burn and hard to remove.

Edit
ALL BURNS must be treated immediately, with cool water. By giving immediate first aid before professional medical help arrives, you can help lessen the severity of the burn. Prompt medical attention to serious burns can help prevent scarring, disability, and deformity. Burns on the face, hands, feet, and genitals can be particularly serious.

Burn first aid help?

I splashed boiling water my stomach last week and burned it terribly. It has been on the road to getting better, but was blistered still. This morning I was holding my son and rubbed against it just right and the whole top layer of skin came off. Now it burnes so badly. I am keeping my clothing off of it and it has dried a little, but still burns bad and I dont want to touch it with anything as not to infect it. I dont have any gauze to cover it with, so what can I do for it to keep it clean, dry and maybe help the pain? Thanks in advance!
I cant see a doctor because I dont have health insurance. I am afraid of putting creams on this because it seems to me (in my tiny mind) that putting cream on such an area would either keep it wet and further irritate it or help harbor infection. Is this wrong?

Put antibiotic ointment on it (neosporin, bacitracin) and cover that with a sterile piece of non-stick gauze (telfa). These are stuff you can buy over the counter and find in your local pharmacy/grocery isles. If you can't find non-stick gauze, then regular gauze is fine.

Infection control is important during this healing stage so make sure you keep the wound clean. Change the dressing every day or as needed if there is a lot of drainage from the wound.

Silvadene is also a good ointment, but you can only get that through prescription and seeing a doctor. It has silver in it and other ingredients in it that prevents growth of unwanted "bugs".
