First Aid For Bee Stings

If bitten by a spider like the Funnel Web you keep the limb low. Why 2 different treatments for a poisonous bite? Is the venom from the Funnel Web more potent than the Bee Sting?

For a funnel bite you keep the limb low because it is a venom and it is harder for it to climb that way. You raise the limb for things like stings so that the swelling is reduced.

Make sure the stinger is out. The soda paste is a very good way to do that and let the healing start. If itching continues, a small amount of hydrocortisone cream or Benadryl cream will make you more comfortable. If you experience any difficulties with breathing or swallowing get to a hospital, you could be heading into anaphalactic shock.

BTW if you don't have soda to make a paste, put some bacon over the sting, that works too.

On September 12 I will be teaching first aid at a scout camp to a group of Webelos. I am going to teach how to treat minor cuts and scrapes, bee and wasp stings, blisters, and a sprained ankle.
I want this to be fun for them, not just some stupid lecture that they have to listen to.

let them practice putting splints and bandages on each other. Lectures are boring- make it interactive and hands-on! I teach basic first aid to 6th graders in public school, they love practicing the skills they are learning.

if the stinger is still in, flick it out, don't squeeze it. if you are allergic, take and antihistamine like benadryll. the baking soda paste works, but if you do not have the stuff for it, moist tea leaves or moist tobacco can also be very help-full in drawing out the venom.

If you are allergic get to a doctor immediately, and don't drive yourself. Epinephrine is what you really need.

I went to a water park last friday... and got stung on my pointer finger.... I went to the first aid place and they sprayed stuff on it to make the pain and swelling.... this is my first sting by a bee... so I don't know how I will react....
It is Thu. today... and last night I awoke with the most itchy finger every!! I couldn't get back to sleep.... I spent the night itching.... it is the size of two fingers now... and I did read here and made a pasteout of water and baking soda.... it helped for while... now it's starting to itch again... but should it still be like this... it's almost been a week!!
I haven't been itching it for 6 hours.... and it's still swollen....

it takes time for your body to react to the venom properly which is wh it is more painful and itchy now.
dont worry about being allergic to bee stings as you would have found that out in the first few hours of being stung.
it will still itch for quite some time however because of the location of the sting it may itch for longer and swell up more.
if the itching hasnt gone away by next week then you may have to contact your doctor to get some strong antihistimens to relieve itching and swelling.
other than that yes they are quite painful and very annoying!!!
