i've been thinking about it alot and i would feel safer if i knew exactly what to do if anything ever went wrong.
I took one and made my cousin come with me when she and her baby moved in with me. I took an infant CPR class with her that also covered some basic first aid. It's a great idea and only takes a few hours. I will most likely look into doing it again with DH when I get farther along.
We took it at a hospital.

What should I have on hand for baby first aid? So far all I have is baby thermometers (a pacifier one and a normal one which came in a set by AVENT).
Also, can you recommend a baby first aid book?
I would suggest learning how to take care of a baby that is choking. my baby did at 5 weeks. its scary.
Learn baby CPR.
buy the large kit with everything in it from babies r us because YOU DO NOT KNOW WHEN YOUR BABY IS GOING TO BE SICK. keep these items stocked and on hand at all times.
be sure to have gas drops, baby tylenol (and know what you are doing... you can OD your baby on tylenol) nipple cream.
if you are breastfeeding i stop ppl in babies r us and tell them to buy a medela nipple shield. i never dealt with cracked bleeding nipples, also i had latching problems in the beginning and it saved me.
P.S. we ordered dvds from ebay for infant cpr/ choking techniques... im more of a visual learner even though i think i read every book i knew of.

Sanitize while removing dirt and germs from hands
This product is an ECONOMICAL replacement for the Premium 8x6 clothlike PURELL Hand Sanitizing Wipes/Towels
5 x 7 inches are excellent for quick clean up or need to feel refreshed
The kits seem to lack... What items/ medicines do you keep on hand?
-Infant Tylenol and Motrin: tylenol is for low fevers, motrin is for higher ones. You don't want to have to run out and get these when your child is ill.
-Mylicon gas drops
-Good quality thermometer (and Vaseline if it is a rectal thermometer)
-Baby nail clippers
-Saline nose drops
-Nasal aspirator (the one the hospital sends home is best)
Other items like band-aids, gauze pads, diaper rash cream and antibacterial lotion are good to have on hand but are probably already in your normal medicine cabinet. The above items are the ones I used most often. Pharmacies will give you medicine droppers with any prescription so don't bother buying one of those.

Hi, if **Fingers Crossed** all goes well, i will be a mum in August im about 7-8 weeks pregnant. However, i am a very anxious person, i have been worrying loads about the baby, like im scared i'll miscarry/ have a premature baby/ have a stillborn child.. Loads of worrys.. As im sure most new mum's do.. However, i think it would be really handy and useful if i could learn first aid for babies, because i know that it is different to first aid for adults (i learned basic first aid when i was 16, im 20 now and i must admit i have forgot basically ALL of it- and we didn't learn about babies really). Anyway, i dont really have much money at all to spare, is there somewhere i can go to for a free class? Do the Nhs do things like this?? Many thanks in advance, God Bless ~x~
hi there i guess it depends in your area, i live in southeast london, there is something called adult education, ie lewisham adult education or bromley adult education and there are lots of others maybe your area has one. they do short courses as well and a lot of them are free, or a good reductions if your on low income. also look at a college. they would have info at your local library as well for what courses are in your area, oh and how about st-johns ambulance they would do courses. also in the libary you will find a book called flood light that will tell you all the courses in london. good luck and congrats. oh and every pregnant woman think about them things
My sister is eight weeks pregnant and im really exited but she says if i want to babysit i have to learn baby first aid what do you have to know? also i want to get her a present for it but dont know the gender any ideas?
St Johns Ambulance holds regular first aid classes. Or phone your nearest ambulance, police or fire station (not their emergency 911/000 number though lol) and ask about first aid classes
As for presents, I would wait until she has her baby shower and has thought about what theme she might like for the nursery and if she has found out the sex of the baby. She might get given some hand me downs from friends and family so it might be a case of waiting to see what other people give her so that you can get something she really wants or needs. Also some people are a little wary of receiving gifts before the magic 3 month mark has passed and the risks of miscarriage have gone down.
