At this point I got lazy. Good luck!
How to treat an open fracture.
My son is more reckless than the average toddler. At 17 months he can scale pretty much any piece of furniture in the house, his latest thing is to dive off the couch with his hands extended to try to do a handstand/flip. We have tile, he's already hit his head once, but that didn't deter him.
Our pediatrician says that he's seen children like my son before and he's likely to have a broken bone or two in his youth. I'd like to try to take some first aid courses just in case, so I can do necessary things while waiting for an ambulance. And of course I'd hope to be able to help him so that an ambulance wouldn't be necessary.
Any suggestion on what kind of course to take/ where to find one. I know I want to take CPR but I'd also like something broader than that.
Well, CPR/First Aid class is what you should take. I took this class and it does offer a lot of good information I think if call your local hospital or if your son goes to daycare ask them, they will be able to tell you when/where to take it.
Good Luck.

I need some help. I need to purchase a good first aid/survival first aid book. A type book you would have on you if you went camping or are going hiking. Something that can show and teach you how to use your surroundings for a first aid situation. Something that can show you what kind of plant to use (for example) to make a rash stop itching, or how to use twigs and wood for a broken bone until you can get to civilization and/or hopsital. Thank you very much. All suggestions welcome. Serious answers only please.
SAS: Emergency Medic. Barnes and Noble or Borders should have it. It's the best one on the market.

I have a first aid & CPR class in the mornings & since it's first aid, we have been discussing blood & different types of wounds, & bleeding for 2 days now. I get really dizzy hearing about it & the first day, the room started spinning & I started sweating cold sweat. I just breathed in & out until I calmed myself & went to the restroom. The second day I distracted myself & I only got a bit dizzy. I don't know why this has happened to me,I can usually tolerate 'blood'.Maybe it has to do with the class being in the morning?I skip breakfast so maybe that can cause it? I don't know but I need to find a solution bc I can't drop the class but the next few weeks are going to be about treating open wounds & broken bones & all that jazz haha! Thanks.
You need to try to eat breakfast-- it's the most important meal of the day. You need the energy for your schoolwork, plus it gets your digestive system moving. Besides, studies show people who eat breakfast will have healthier body weights than those who skip.
Low blood sugar can cause sweating, shakiness, dizziness, and confusion.
Scenario: You and your friends are on your way to the mountains for a weekend camping trip when you come upon a 1981 station wagon in a ditch at the side of the road. The car has rolled and there is smoke coming out from beneath the hood. There are two passengers, and both are sitting outside the car.
•The first passenger you see is a girl about 10 years old. She has some cuts and abrasions and her left leg is broken with the bone protruding. She is bleeding profusely from the point of the break.
•A woman is out of the car, crying. She is trying to stop traffic to get help. She is pale and cold, and her right arm just hangs at her side. She has some bleeding from a cut on that arm.
There are some things you already know. You know you should make sure you do not rush in to a dangerous scene and become injured yourself. Also, you see that both people are conscious and breathing. Now, what are some things you can do to help? Consider what you will do first, who you can help, and in what order. Consider the types of injuries and first aid that you might render.
Apply pressure to the child's profuse bleeding FIRST and FOREMOST.
The lady is in shock, but the child will die if not assisted first. Use the hand or any cloth to apply pressure to the child's bleeding wound, and reinforce with other material/cloth available at the scene.
