Arts, crafts, and activities for children?

My friend and I are going to start an after-school childcare service soon. I'm First Aid certified, and he has a daycare license. From three to six, we'll have several children with us.

The four year old girl is a whirlwind of energy and would thrive being active.

The five year old boy loves painting and age-appropriate crafts.

The five year old girl is at that let-me-help-you-with-that stage. She is always at someones side trying to give any sort of assistance she can, often getting underfoot.

The twins are three. One is extremely shy and prefers activities he can do alone. The other is quite physical and creative.

The two year old is autistic. I have experience with him, so he is not the one we worry about.

What are some pastimes that you guys could suggest to keep this group occupied for three hours? We'd help the two in school with homework, but to do so the four younger ones will have to do something that they won't need to be hawk-monitored while doing. Are there any group activities they could do for social stimulation? What about crafts that are easy for even the little ones?

And while I ask, what about snack time ideas?

I appreciate all suggestions! Thanks ahead of time!
The physical and creative twin is colorblind, so painting doesn't really interest him.

This suggestion is really just in relation to the color blind tot.
What about flavor painting? He may not be able to see the colors, but he could taste the different flavors.
I use sugar free jelly crystals and ice-cubes.
Simply place a blank sheet of paper in a shallow baking tray and sprinkle the crystals on the paper. The child / children then use the ice-cube as their paint brush to create a picture. As the crystals get wet they release color.
The artists can lick the ice-cube as it melts and taste the flavor. You could encourage the boy to describe what it tastes like, how it makes him feel etc. And as you experiment with different flavors you can discuss the differences. Then write the name of the color on the paper, along with the words he has used to describe the taste.
It's just as much fun for the other kids too. Especially on a hot afternoon. (covers snack ideas too! lol)

A packet of plain, round, sweet biscuits are a great snack and activity. Provide icing, smarties, sprinkles and such and let the children design their own snack.
You can do a similar thing with bread, cream cheese, sultanas, carrot sticks, mini tomatoes, etc.
Vegemite as paint and bread as their canvas also allows them to personalize their own food.

I hope I've given you a couple of ideas. Good luck.

I think it is very comprehensive.

Your mother being a teacher is irrelevant. It is also obvious that they call to see when you are available.

Make sure you use some good fonts and highlight some of the information. Reading it like this is really wordy. If I saw your flyer like that... I would have quit reading it half way.

Highlight your name, experience, location (but I'm sure where your fliyers are handed out are part of your location), Trustworthy, firstaid and CPR and your contact info.

I would not have I am 14, soon to be 15. That sound very unprofessional. The flyers you pring while you are 14.. say 14.. and the ones 15... say 15. "Soon to be 15" definitely sounds like what a kid would say. Little kids are always saying that they are 12 and a half... and such. Really, it does not matter. You don't hear adults saying that they are 45 and a half.

Also, if you have where you are willing to work, you dont' need to tell them where you currently live.

I hope that helps.

Make sure that you have a professional sounding e-mail. Make a new one if in doubt. I just want to make sure because your current screen name is "Yo Moma". If you e-mail is that type of thing, get a new one.

I have a three year old little girl who loves to read books, play puzzles, color, dance around and just be silly. She likes to pretend she is things and use her imagination as well us playing in her play kitchen. I hope it goes well!

I was asked to watch children at a Wedding Reception what do I charge?

I have done 1 Wedding and 5 Holiday Parties for kids
I work with another teacher and can bring more people
We are CPR and First Aid Trained
I bring all the activities for Infants and Up
I have done 1 Wedding and 5 Holiday Parties
CPR & First Aid Training
Two Teachers can get more staff
I bring Activities and toys

What should they pay us to Supervise?
They pay for children food and event space.

Start with your expenses for the event. How much will it cost for travel expenses and supplies? Don't forget gas. It can definitely impact your profit.

How many hours have you agreed to work? Now, how long will it take you to pack up supplies and travel to the wedding? What is the minimum amount that each teacher who is working the event would be willing to do it for? What amount does each teacher feel would be a really generous amount? Divide the dollar amount per person by the hours onsite, and again by the hours including travel, and get a real sense of how much you would be making per hour. The customer will consider he is paying you for the actual time at the wedding, but you actually worked more hours when you consider your travel, so you need to consider both aspects.
Consider the fact that you are professionals, trained in CPR and First Aid, so you should be making a reasonable income, not minimum wage.

After you think through all of this, you will be much closer to having a good sense of what is a low price, a fair price, and a very profitable price to charge.

Write it all down, and keep it ready for your negotiation, but never show this information to your customer.

At this point, you will be ready to negotiate. Ask for the highest amount that you expect your customer may be willing to pay, or a bit more, and start your negotiation with the knowledge of what is the lowest price you are willing to accept. Come down a little on your price so that your customer feels that they got a deal, but try not to get down to the bottom number that was the lowest that you or the other teacher was willing to accept.

Bring your calculator, paper and pen, and be prepared with answers. Know how to respond if the customer suggests that you shorten your time onsite to reduce the total amount, or asks you to bring one less extra teacher, etc. It might be best to have some of these answers worked out in advance.

You may feel that the price you have calculated out is a bit high, but think it through. Consider the fact that this is a "house call", and you are trained professionals, not general labor. It is not unusual for service professionals to be hesitant to ask for what they are really worth, but it is what you will have to do in order to be successful in this business.

Best of luck!!
