How can you practice first aid?

I've taken alot of the first aid courses and I feel very comfortable with all the procedures and material. The only thing is, is that a practice scenario is very different from a real life situation. I was wondering if anyone knew of any sort of volunteer or paid position (such as university first aid teams) that often dealt emergency situations. I really want to help people but I want to do more than I already am.

Basic info about me: 18 years, gr.12, and a lifeguard (my pool doesn't have very many situations)

Depending on where you live sometimes the local ambulance company will want volunteers and sometimes they will provide you with training on a higher level. Like I don't know if you just want to do first aid and CPR or if you want to become an Emergency Medical Tech. It's a very rewarding career but very hard too. You can ask your local ambulance squad. You can contact your local fire company to they might need someone who has first aid training and CPR and you could call on calls. The only thing with both of these are you get a pager, scanner, blue light or red light for your car and when your pager or scanner goes off you have to go no matter what time of the night or day it is. Alot of schools will let a student go and get out of class if there is a call which is nice because you get to leave school when a call comes in! Its a very fast pace career and you have to think on your feet. If that doesn't sound good to you some jobs and some high schools and colleges have a first aid and CPR team aka security!!
Good Luck!!

health and safety policy?

In a school, the head teacher has overall responsibility of the health and safety in the school and to make sure all the students are fully protected. However he could also employ a health and safety officer who is qualified to asses to risks within the school. All the staff in the school has a responsibility to report any hazard in the school and where people to remove them. Staff should as far as is reasonably practical, carry out their work in a safe and healthy manner both for themselves and others, and make sure that their classrooms are safe for everybody to access. Students throughout the school are normally given simple explanations about safety, normally when needed arises, for example; using tools or when cooking. In such instance they should be carefully supervised at all time during and after the activity, and make sure everything is stored away safely after use. The organisations for safety must be understood by everyone who is involved with the school. All staff must be aware of the whereabouts of all fire extinguishers, fire points and first aid facilities, and must be conversant with the fire policy and emergency procedures. Visitors must also be aware of the fire points and exits in the school. Most emergency, fire and first aid procedures will be explained to the visitor soon after arrival as possible.

but who's held responsible in a care home? what do they do and everything?

The Manager, maintenance staff and Directors. Audits and Regulation 26 should be done monthly-your Manager will explain these to you and copies be available for the Inspection team (CQC) Fire checks should also be done by a qualified person weekly/as and when then recorded.
All staff should be aware of the H&S policies upon induction and do mandatory training shortly after starting their employment. This is the responsiblity of the Manager to ensure staff receive this as if not, they are liable i.e. Jane was in charge of the home and after 6 months, had not attended training in H&S and a person in their care sustained an injury after tripping over a worn carpet. Jane had noticed the carpet and reported/logged it. Family filed a complaint so the Manager/Directors are at fault for not ensuring the carpet was replaced or made safe. However, if the same had happened, Jane had done her training and noticed the hazard but did not report it, Jane is the responsible person. It is still the responsibility of staff though to read the homes policies and procedures and be aware of these as I asked staff to sign that they had read them following induction.
I also ensured all staff who were at any time in charge of the home had completed the IOSH training- and appointed staff were listed on the HSE poster which is compulsory to be displayed. Ask your Manager about the IOSH training.
Also, read up on Corporate Manslaughter...real eye opener.

How do I start a career in flight attending?

Ok so I want to start a career in flight attending. I want to know are any airlines hiring right now? How do I go about finding or getting an interview or a position as a flight attendant?

I do have a few qualifications that are relevant to the career:

I've attended Medical Assisting School so I know all about first aid and such matters as blood pressure levels, respirations, pulse, and many other first aid or emergency procedures.

I am CPR ceritfied (adult, infant, and how to use a defibrilator)

I have worked in customer service and hospitality constantly dealing with unhappy customers and mending unpleasant situations for about 1 year.

I have taken college courses including how to use professional acumen in the work world.

So I want to know is it even possible to try to start a career in flight attending? Are there any airlines hiring? How do I go about getting an interview? Any other suggestions that will help me out?

Learn conversational Mandarin & Spanish. Different languages spoken is something they look at strongly when you apply. If you can speak English, Mandarin, and Spanish you'll probably have no trouble getting a job a flight attendant.
