Super confused about First Aid and CPR Training...?

Hey, first of all, thanks for checking out my question.

OK, so I work at this place where one of the job requirements are to have Emergency First aid and CPR level C. I have no training in any of these areas, but they hired me knowing this and I always work with people that have this training.

I just got my Summer work schedule and it turns out I am going to be working alone now, starting mid-July. I feel it's in my best interest to get certified now that I will be working alone.

My questions are:

1. I am required to have Emergency First Aid training, but I have checked my local Saint Johns Ambulance and the course for Standard First Aid training is twice as long, but only $10 extra. I figure I might as well get that instead, but does that mean Standard First Aid outranks the Emergency First Aid? Meaning, f I have Standard First Aid, does that mean I am more than qualified, or does that mean that I need to also get Emergency First Aid?

2. I also need CPR Level C. Is This included in my First Aid Training? If not, how long does this course usually take for and how much (ballpark figure is OK) does it usually cost?

3. Where I work there is an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Am I also trained to use this when I am trained in EFA/SFA? If not, is there any way I can get trained to use this, or does it even require training?

If it helps, I live in Canada and work with children and infants.
Thanks, and sorry for all of the questions! :)

If you have a 'higher' level of first aid or CPR, you do not need to certify at a lower level. So if you have Standard First Aid, you have outranked the Emergency First Aid qualification (which is good).
Here is the hierarchy of first aid:
Basic First Aid
Emergency First Aid
Standard First Aid
... (you can do advanced courses here)

For CPR:
CPR-A
CPR-B
CPR-C
CPR-HCP (Health Care Provider)

AED is a separate qualification. It is included in most Canadian Red Cross courses, separate with St. John's Ambulance (usually), and available with the Lifesaving Society.

It is definitely worth getting Standard First Aid training as it includes a bunch of valuable information. On top of that, unless you are in health care or on a first response team, you will never need a higher certification. Additionally, most SFA courses include CPR-C (double check this though).

Costs of courses vary in price depending on the level of the course, where you are taking it, and if it includes AED. I have seen courses for SFA & AED run by independent instructors for $75 and as high as $200 with some agencies in Toronto area.

Check out the sites I listed below. Look for "Take a Course" on the St. John's or Lifesaving Society sites. The Red Cross address below is the site for all their available courses by location. Also, check out your local recreation centre or pool - they run lots of courses as well.

Basic and Emergency First aid courses in Birmingham before the Army?

I joined the Army a few months ago and I'm going through the process at the minute. As I've joined as a Combat Medic, and I've got some time on my hands before I begin training, I thought getting in some experience would be great.

I've tried the St Johns Ambulance and the Red Cross, but they have nothing in Birmingham. Free would be preferable since I'm unemployed at the moment, but charges will be just fine. I'm not too sure where else to look and Google isn't being much help either. So, if anyone could suggest some places that do Basic and/or Emergency first aid training (or something similar that would be helpful with my chosen career) in Birmingham that's also open to the public, I'd be incredibly grateful.

Thanks.

It`s not worth the expense or the papers the give out as certificates.
The training you will receive in the army is far more advanced than any civilian organisation can give you and that the includes the civilian Para-medics.
Medical training in the R.A.M.C doesn`t just consist of basic first aid,it also include diagnosis procedures, the prescribing on certain drugs and medicines, how to give intraveinous transfusions and above all the ability to be able to look after and treat casualties for possibly days on end when they can`t be tranferred to hospital facility due to combat and other problems.
You will also learn to improvise when you don`t the correct equipment available, how to rescue casualties safely when under fire.
The Royal Army Medical Corps combat medic is the best in the world due to they`re training and because the never have enough equipment.Unlike the rest of modern day armies they don`t have dedicated Helicopter units to move casualties and the ambulances are just basic landrovers with a box body stuck on the back.

Difference between standard and emergency first aid?

St. John Ambulance offers both "standard" and "emergency" first aid courses. What is the difference? Or is emergency= standard + additional training? Please advise! Thanks!

standard ==is every day stuff, cuts, burns, kid falls of his bike, heart attack (basic) emergency ++ is the coming upon a car accident type stuff, more indepth heart attack (CPR)open fractures, poisonings ,infant care,, and these are 2 seperate classes,, sometimes you must havethe standard to go on to the emergency.. but both are exceptional to have and look good on your resumes..

i need first aid training?

im going to need to obtain these things to get into the college course i need to, are these easy to obtain?

1 valid St. John's Standard First Aid Certificate (or equivalent), Emergency First Aid Certificate is not acceptable;

2 valid CPR Basic Rescuer (Level C) Certificate;

Call your local Red Cross. They offer first aid training. If they don't offer what you need, they'll probably know who in your area does. You could also inquire at your local fire department (do NOT call 911); they should know.

Should i pay for first aid training and my CRB for a job ?

So i got a call from an employer who recived my cv to work as a nursery nurse, now iv worked mostly in business and also working with young offenders so as he saw i had first aid training and emergency life support training he said i could work as a first point first aider in the nursery, but i would need to take up some more first aid training costing around £100 pounds which i would have to pay myself and also a crb check doe by them even though i have one allready costing around £65 im currently on job seekers allowance and hardly have money to pay this and im upset that it i have to fork out £165 to work as a nursury nurse on 8 pound an hour which is hardly a challanging job, he said i had no experince to work as the nursy nurse and i was thinking to myself that its hardly a job entertaining children and as a mother myself i have more then enough experince raising kids. Do you think i should be paying for this my last company paid for my first aid and crb why wont they, and why do i pay the depoisit in the interveiw when i havent even been told i have the job.

No and No
I work in childcare and any propective employee would have their CRB paid for them
and any training required is also paid by us.
this sounds extremely dodgy
Check also with your local council as in ours, there is a personal development fund that pays for
'on the job' training in childcare establishments
Any company that tries to charge you are not worth working for
