Profuse External Arterial Bleeding? Hmm... maybe blood gushing out at an enormous rate might be a clue?

First aid? Stop the bleeding as soon as possible by pressure or tourniquet. Worry about infection or gangrene later, since if the blood is coming out that fast, the person will die rather quickly if the bleeding isn't stopped immediately.
