I want to learn first aid because a lot of jobs now a days want their future employees to have this mandatory. So in your opinion which one should I take? Is Emergency first aid to hard for a beginner like me or can anyone take it at any level? OR should i get standard before getting emergency? :S
I would jump in with both feet and take the emergency first aid course. A lot of people know basic first aid. For the most part, standard first aid involves a lot of no-brainer skills. I can't tell you how many people I come across, though, who have basic first aid but have NO clue what to do in an emergency, and they end up doing the ill or injured person more harm than good. My vote is for the emergency first aid course (or if you really want to impress a future employer, a first responder course which you can take through the American Red Cross. Then you would be trained to do things like administer oxygen and assist us (EMS personnel) in childbirth).
The process of becoming an EMT starts with getting involved in the curriculum through a local university, community college or organization that ...
I want to take the rescue diver course, but Padi requires you to take a First Aid course beforehand. They have their own course available, but what's the difference between their course and other first aid courses?
Many times the PADI course will also include a section on the use of Emergency Oxygen. Since Oxygen is the first aid for more DCS/DCI injuries, it is very beneficial to know this as well.
Most other first aid courses do not include the administration of emergency oxygen.
St. John Ambulance offers both "standard" and "emergency" first aid courses. What is the difference? Or is emergency= standard + additional training? Please advise! Thanks!
standard ==is every day stuff, cuts, burns, kid falls of his bike, heart attack (basic) emergency ++ is the coming upon a car accident type stuff, more indepth heart attack (CPR)open fractures, poisonings ,infant care,, and these are 2 seperate classes,, sometimes you must havethe standard to go on to the emergency.. but both are exceptional to have and look good on your resumes..
I want to pursue a career in medicine and i feel that this will be a good thing to write on my personal statment. Is this (Emergency First Aid for Appointed Persons - First Aid) the right course for me?
Thanks ;)
I, like you, am pursuing an education in medicine...for me, I took a class for AHA, CPR. So I am trained for CPR for adults, children and infants. This certification, as long as its AHA approved, is good for two years. I hope this helps....
I joined the Army a few months ago and I'm going through the process at the minute. As I've joined as a Combat Medic, and I've got some time on my hands before I begin training, I thought getting in some experience would be great.
I've tried the St Johns Ambulance and the Red Cross, but they have nothing in Birmingham. Free would be preferable since I'm unemployed at the moment, but charges will be just fine. I'm not too sure where else to look and Google isn't being much help either. So, if anyone could suggest some places that do Basic and/or Emergency first aid training (or something similar that would be helpful with my chosen career) in Birmingham that's also open to the public, I'd be incredibly grateful.
Thanks.
It`s not worth the expense or the papers the give out as certificates.
The training you will receive in the army is far more advanced than any civilian organisation can give you and that the includes the civilian Para-medics.
Medical training in the R.A.M.C doesn`t just consist of basic first aid,it also include diagnosis procedures, the prescribing on certain drugs and medicines, how to give intraveinous transfusions and above all the ability to be able to look after and treat casualties for possibly days on end when they can`t be tranferred to hospital facility due to combat and other problems.
You will also learn to improvise when you don`t the correct equipment available, how to rescue casualties safely when under fire.
The Royal Army Medical Corps combat medic is the best in the world due to they`re training and because the never have enough equipment.Unlike the rest of modern day armies they don`t have dedicated Helicopter units to move casualties and the ambulances are just basic landrovers with a box body stuck on the back.
